We
have posted this list of safety protocols because of the recent
concerns of teams and coaches about how this year’s competition, Hot
Shot, could be very dangerous. These are the safety protocols that
we follow each day to keep every team member safe. For team safety
is a big deal, and if your team is also concerned about safety, just
follow these protocols.
Safety Protocols:
- When team members are working with something that could
damage their eyes, we wear safety glasses. Each team member has
their own pair.
- If team members are working around nauseous fumes or
something that could get in their mouths or noses, they wear
dust masks. Note: sometimes fumes are given off when we cut
plastics (ABS, Plexiglas, Lexan, etc.), so we always wear masks
then as well.
- Our biggest protocol is that when the main power for the
robot is on, no one touches it. We are very concerned about a
finger getting caught in the gears.
- We also made it mandatory to place safety shields (where
possible) around gears to make sure that fingers or clothes
don’t get caught.
Good luck this season and stay safe!
